How is Gonorrhea diagnosed, treated, and cured?
THe Process of diagnosing Gonorrhea is quick and easy. the doctor will be able to walk you through all the steps and ultimately recommend the best choice for your health.
Step 1 - Diagnosis:
In order to diagnose gonorrhea, the doctor will need to obtain a sample of your body fluid near the suspected infection. To do this, a swab may be taken from the urethra (men) or the cervix (women.) For suspected anal/throat/ocular infections, a swab will be obtained from those areas. Some doctors may ask you for a urine sample. The test may take several days to be analyzed.
Step 2 - Treatment
If the test comes back positive for Gonorrhea, the doctor will describe your options. Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection and is thus always treated using antibiotics - most commonly ceftriaxone and azithromycin. Antibiotics can be administered via a single injection, a short course of oral antibiotics or both for optimal treatment.
Its important to remember that symptoms won't go away immediately. New symptoms have been reported - such as an enflamed urethra - but know that it is just a result of the antibiotics doing their job.
TELL anyone you have recently engaged in sexual activity with about your diagnosis so they can get tested as well and prevent any further spread of the infection.
